Colette G. Matzzie has handled a variety of whistleblower cases, including those involving fraud by healthcare companies and insurance companies.
Ms. Matzzie joined Phillips & Cohen LLP after working at the United States Department of Justice for five years. At DOJ, she served as an attorney on the Civil Appellate staff representing the federal government in federal and state courts at the appellate level. In addition, she served as a trial attorney on DOJ=s Tobacco Litigation team in the case brought by the United States against 11 tobacco industry defendants and received a special commendation for her work.
From 1995 to 1999, Ms. Matzzie was a staff attorney with Public Citizen Litigation Group, a public interest advocacy organization, where she litigated cases at the trial and appellate levels concerning public health and safety, access to information, consumer protection, separation of powers, and access to the civil justice system. In 1998 and 1999, she taught Public Interest Advocacy as an adjunct professor at Georgetown University Law Center.
Ms. Matzzie graduated magna cum laude from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1994. She was Senior Articles Editor of The Georgetown Law Journal. During law school, she was a legal advocate for the Haitian Refugee Program and a legal intern with the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund.
After graduating, she clerked for the Honorable Dolores K. Sloviter, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit, from 1994 to 1995. She is the 1995 recipient of the Frederick B. Abramson Public Service Award.
